You would never guess what I think about when I run.
I hear this often: I get great ideas when I run! Or some variation of this — thinking more clearly while running, being creative.
Politely, I nod or mumble something.
Politely — because I don’t want to argue. If running helps someone generate ideas — awesome!
This will be a short story because I can articulate exactly what I think about when I run.
Today I had a very hard run. It was late at night. I often run while waiting for my son during his swimming session but there was a football game at the school’s track so my plan to do intervals was disrupted. I did warm up a little but was determined to stick to my original plan. After bringing him home I drove to FAU’s (Florida Atlantic University) athletic track. At first, I feared that I wouldn’t be able to run again as there was a lacrosse team training. But it wasn’t a match so I walked on the track and did my running. I started at 8.30. Three intervals by two miles with a four hundred meter jog in between. It’s probably the hardest set of intervals I ever do. To makes things more difficult, it was windy and too warm, even in the evening. But I got my run done:
What did I think about while I ran?
Wait, I’ll reveal it soon.
