You don’t have to have an opinion about Elon Musk buying Twitter

I don’t. Having a strong opinion on Musk and Twitter (or some other current topics for that matter) doesn’t make your smarter or more virtuous.

For one thing, I don’t use Twitter. I have an account but never really used the platform.

So unless Twitter is an integral part of your life (and it’s fine if it is) and you have existential concerns, you don’t have to have an opinion, let alone express it.

I’m for free speech. Unconstrained, no strings attached. To that end, I’m ok with Musk’s mindset. There are individuals on this planet I loathe and even want dead, but if I support free speech, these individuals must be allowed to have their voices heard. If these individuals are too influential in a bad way, well, it’s the problem of those being influenced, not the influencers. I think of my kids. I can’t forever protect them from bad influencers. I can only educate them and hope that they will make the right choices and judgments when exposed to evil m***f***s.

How do I feel about a single individual owning one of the most influential platforms in the world, about literally “owning” and single-handedly controlling millions of voices that are trying to be heard? It sucks. But then it’s not much different from Zuckerberg’s control of Facebook. There are also private individuals behind Medium, I guess.

So I am not pulling my hair, not rushing to write a story about the world collapsing faster because of…
