What’s your bucket list? Here’s mine.
No one asked me but I thought I’d share mine!
I had to think about the meaning of “bucket list”. I decided that not all goals or aspirations are allowed on this list. For example, I’m passionate about running and initially put “win a marathon major in the 55+ age group”. I then removed this point. If I keep running for many years, which I plan to do, winning a marathon in my age group will be one of the outcomes of my training, a by-product of exercising my passion. It feels like the bucket list should have endeavors that begin and end distinctly in the future, that have little or no foundation in the current moment in time.
So, in no particular order:
- Visit Japan. I sometimes say I’m well-traveled. Bull shit. Europe, America, and a couple of tourist destinations in South America and the Caribbean. Never been to Asia, Africa, or Australia. I’m most intrigued by Japan. I don’t know why!
- Complete a Master’s degree in English or History. No, my Harvard MBA is not enough. My undergraduate degree in Economics from Cambridge is not enough. I’m interested in neither economics nor business. I’m interested in humanities. Languages, literature, and history.
- Write an epic book. I’m thinking mainly non-fiction but with some fancy fiction elements.
- Adopt a child. I have four kids and I’m barely managing. But when I’m more settled and stable, I’d like to impact someone’s life in a profound way, to enjoy how we’re all one, no matter…
