Member-only story

Too many people are reading me. It’s detrimental to my writing.

My start on Medium, a little less than a year ago, was quiet. No sharing of my stories on social media and I didn’t tell my family or friends about my blogging endeavor.

It was a conscious strategy. I wrote about it.

I then enjoyed writing to no one:

It’s all very different now… Not that I have tens of thousands of followers, but every week I discover that I’m being read.

My son is reading me. Of course, at this point, my entire family knows I’m writing on Medium.

Recently I started a new job. My employer discovered my writing. I felt awkward because I don’t advertise my writing. I was a little worried but there was nothing to worry about — my creativity was appreciated.

My wife was recently traveling with my daughter for tennis and she met someone who knew me because of my Medium writing.
