Today is a great day for music lovers. And I loved this violent movie.

A pop culture note!

Stories about music feel niche because our tastes are very unique. I’d talk with admiration about some artist and someone will think, “Who?”

Today was special though.

The Smile (think Radiohead/Thom Yorke)

Kendrick Lamar

Florence + the Machine

I listen to all of these freshly released records today, especially the first two.

This is not an attempt to judge or review. I don’t understand how some reviewers come up with their write-ups so quickly. When I listen to a new album, I’d play it fifty times at least, for many days in a row.

Loving the Smile so far. The track Free in the Knowledge catches your attention right away because it’s so simple and catchy. Much of the album is Radiohead-recognizable both in its electronic and acoustic vibes.

I listened to Kendrick Lamar on my ten-mile run. A pretty intense record! “We cry” together caught my attention immediately. It’s very (too?) similar to Eminem’s Kim. The chorus is a very deep conversation between the song’s two characters (copying from here):

You know what? Fuck you, bitch (Fuck you, nigga)
Nah, fuck you, bitch (Nah, fuck you, nigga)
Fuck you, bitch (Nah, fuck you, nigga)
Nah, fuck you, bitch (Fuck you, nigga)
Fuck you, bitch (Fuck you, nigga)
Fuck you (Fuck you), fuck you (Fuck you)
Fuck you…
