Three audiobooks I listened to on my epic California-Florida drive

I left Southern California’s Orange County on Sunday early afternoon and arrived in southern Florida on Tuesday evening.

Well, maybe the drive wasn’t that “epic”. It was forced — my large family is executing a complicated move from California to Florida and one of the final stages involved me driving our Toyota Highlander 2,700 miles. The car was packed with everything that hadn’t yet been moved yet; that means a lot of crap that you discover you still have in your house and garage even when you think that you’re almost done cleaning up.

I also “transported” our cat Memphis, our bearded dragon Techy and two turtles. Don’t ask me why so many pets. I keep falling for my kids’ requests.

Or maybe it was epic. It feels that way when you finally park at your destination. It’s a little like finishing a marathon. Your sense of time becomes a little blurred; the journey’s images — different states and landscapes, the passing of day and night, gas station and rest area stops — are nothing extraordinary on the one hand (you’re stuck in your car!), yet shape memories that will last a lifetime. I know — I’ve done a few of these trips in the past. And I love driving through America, especially the desert landscapes of its South West.

I listened to three audiobooks during my trip.

Atomic Habits by James Clear. I really dislike self-improvement books. I find them boring and pompous. But I decided to read this one…
