This is a great story and helps me personally as I struggle with this topic somewhat. I don’t think I can fully agree with the logic of not focusing on stastically improbable scenarios. They are improbable until they are not (like the case with the swimmer, or like in politics or many other planes of life). Also there are families who are for good or bad focusing very seriously on their their kids’ athletic pursuits and there are genuine situations in sports when physicality becomes a constraint. That said the over direction of this story is spot on
