There should be a dedicated institution for preventing bullying

This story is not easy to write because of the fear of appearing like I’m expressing pity or latent empathy towards deranged mass shooters (or not acknowledging the ever-painful topic of gun control in the US).

However, I can’t NOT think about one of the patterns of mass shootings — they are carried out by young men. The average age of those involved in carrying out the attacks was eighteen (source: Scientific American).

I appreciated this article by a fellow Medium author

The information on Salvador Ramos (the shooter in Uvalde) is limited but there are signs of him having been a bullied loner.

I opened the commentary section to one of the news posts on social media and saw several angry comments dismissing the bullying theme viz-a-viz the immense scale of violence and tragedy that Ramon caused.

I don’t fully agree. A mentally sick person can wreak havoc whose scale we can’t predict nor control. There are limits to how much we can vilify the perpetrator, without attempting to understand the root of the problem, the darkness of mind that leads to unthinkable violence, especially considering there is a pattern (young males unleashing their…
