There is a lot of good in the world. Now is not the time to be umairesque.
I’d like to touch on a few topics, in no particular order, to communicate that though we’re living in a difficult world, there is much hope too.
Global health. The pandemic has been hard on everyone but we’ve found new ways to stay productive while spending more time with our families. We’ve found new ways to educate our kids. These new ways are not always perfect but they open new possibilities for mainstream and niche education, for students of different ages and abilities, globally.
We’ve been finding — and often struggling to find — ways to live as a community that’s more aware of how different its individual members are; how some are more fragile than others; how some are more individualistic and rebellious than others. We’re one, but we’re different. Sure, the struggle part has been ugly at times; the attitudes have been polarizing. But I feel that overall we’ve become more experienced at living in relative unity, under the circumstances of great stress and polarizing views.
McKinsey just released a study showing that at least six years of higher quality for everyone is within reach.
