The only guaranteed way to make life more interesting

Travel.

And I don’t mean go to Hawaii for vacation or even some more exotic place where you see cute penguins or admire the remains of some ancient civilization.

That doesn’t count.

I mean moving places. Packing your things, taking your kids or pets, and leaving your home. In fact, when you truly move, you often get a feeling you no longer have a home. It’s not good or bad, but you’re a little confused. Is your old home still your “base”, or are you settled in enough in your new place so that it starts to feel like home?

Moving can be across continents, countries, states, or even within a state.

Moving means stepping out of your comfort zone and getting to know new communities, new cultures, new people. Every new place will have its pluses and minuses. It doesn’t have to be your dream destination but you form memories that last a lifetime. Maybe you’ll look back, and think well, that was hell or that was a shithole. That’s still a valuable life experience!

Isn't that what makes our lives rich — memories and profound experiences?

You just can’t achieve that living in the same place, even if it’s a very versatile and large one, like say New York City or London or Hong Kong. The “richness” of your life experiences is limited to trying new restaurants, changing jobs and offices, maybe changing your kid’s school, or having an affair at work.
