The incredible things I can achieve in 2022

I recently read the book “Atomic Habits”. It talks about the power of small, incremental improvements. When compounded day after day these improvements can eventually lead to gigantic leaps. I definitely agree with the book and through my own experience, especially in running, discovered the incredible power of sticking to a routine. If you read some of my stories about running and my marathon, you will see how I de-emphasize goals and emphasize sticking to a routine without any goals in sight.

Now though I’m going to contradict myself. I do think big hairy audacious goals (this expression comes from some business book whose name I can’t remember!) are important, at least in some far corner of one’s mind. Or maybe even in one of the closer corners! I’m writing mine here on Medium, dammit, so what’s in the back of my mind is now real words written in black against the white background, for the world to see!

  • Run a 2-hour 49-minute marathon
  • Make a million dollars via a mix of consulting and new business ventures
  • Launch a content business dedicated to running
  • Publish my first book

At this moment I’m very far from achieving any of these. In fact, I’m like a baby crawling on my knees, sometimes smiling, sometimes crying from frustration and helplessness. But I also know I have the foundations for achieving each one of these goals. I don’t mean some hypothetical “I’m capable of anything mantra”. The seeds, the beginning are there. I’m not starting from scratch. Incredible goals will require an incredible amount of work and discipline.

No human is limited, in the words of Eliud Kipchoge. Gotta read his memoir!

Let’s see.

Good luck with your goals, my readers!
