Ten life and business lessons. A note to myself (and maybe advice to some)

In no particular order, based on my experience and life journey.

  1. Do not ever turn down an opportunity to meet with another human being, whether a friend, colleague, acquaintance, neighbor or even a stranger. I’m an introvert, and I don’t like being in the company of other people, but I never-ever regretted making an effort to meet someone. A seemingly mundane coffee can change the trajectory of your life.
  2. Do not avoid difficult conversations. I’ve been in debt a lot, for example, or struggled in business. It’s tempting not to pick up the phone. There is only downside to not communicating. There is never any upside.
  3. Apply the ego filter to anything you say, in person or on the internet. Ask yourself: is there genuine value, to me or someone else, in what I am about to say or post, or am I trying to feed my ego? If the latter, shut up.
  4. Do not do anything outward-oriented if you have alcohol in your blood. By outward-oriented, I’m referring to work, business, or posting something in the digital space. To take it further, don’t drink in any professional setting, even in a social setting, when everyone’s drinking. Drinking is unprofessional. You will never sound smarter compared to when you’re sober.
  5. Do not pre-announce that you will do something, and certainly don’t announce self-imposed deadlines. Just do, not say.
  6. Better beg for forgiveness than ask for
