Should Medium have very short-form posts?

I’m sure Medium’s leadership team has analyzed this question and concluded negatively. I’m guessing the logic is to differentiate from other social media platforms by being more sophisticated, instead of adding yet another light-minded, shallow voice to the noise that the internet is.

But is this logic strong?

The other day I attended the 4th of July festivities and wanted to drop a note about my appreciation of America — that of an immigrant. I was filled with positive emotions and wanted to share my sentiment in a simple way. Yes, it was a fleeting moment. What’s wrong with that? Not everything in life requires a story.

Another example. Last night, I was reading about some new, powerful fat loss drug and noticed how my ego was threatened. I put a huge amount of effort into staying lean. Luckily, it’s not a burden because I enjoy running, but it’s an ongoing, years-long effort. And now you can just take a pill and manage your weight without all that hard work?

I wasn’t right or wrong in my reaction to the article about the drug. I was just aware of how I felt and, as a writer-slash-blogger, I like sharing my thoughts and feelings. Sometimes I can write a story, and sometimes it takes just a sentence or two to express something. In fact, in some situations, writing a story is just wrong and is a bad reflection of my writing abilities. If something can be expressed in a very brief way, it should. I’m not on Twitter, but I wouldn’t mind posting short notes on Medium.

Substack, by the way, introduced notes, and I do use them.

And I don’t always need a picture for my posts either.
