People mostly have no idea when they talk about immigration

In 2016, I felt fear and uncertainty when Trump won. I was going through a long and complicated immigration process. I saw no way to go back to Russia, even though the world was still years away from the war with Ukraine, which has since made the annexation of Crimea feel like a footnote in history.

I think most people going through immigration in the US have subtle fears when they hear talks of deportation, even when they are “fully legal” immigrants.

Immigration in the US is incredibly tough. For example, see this post from the founder of Perplexity, one of the leading AI companies:

I went through a similarly difficult journey. But things worked out and my family eventually got our green cards. It was the happiest moment in my life.

This is not a political story. What I’m saying — and agreeing with the post from X above — is that most people “have no idea when they talk about immigration.” Immigration is on the same level as health — it shapes your very existence. When you’re struggling to resolve it…
