Nine years ago I started writing a memoir “A Russian”.

A lot of it is drafted but I never finished it. The biggest struggle has been maintaining discipline. I’ve been able to achieve consistency with my running and blogging but writing a book feels like an insurmountable undertaking. Even if I write every day, there is never a finish line in sight. Even when you have what feels like a meaningful draft, you show it to an editor and they politely tell you there’s a lot of work… too much work…

The idea was this: a coming-of-age story, a family drama, and a love story; a journey of my Russian identity across time and space against the backdrop of historic changes in Russia.

Maybe, after all, I should finish what I started! Besides, the very notion of writing a memoir at 33 was questionable. But now I’m in my forties. More grey hair! And more historic events to write about.

The question of discipline is unresolved though. Advice appreciated!
