My teenage son hates Democrats
And he likes Republicans
I think the first feeling is stronger.
This morning I was on a zoom conference call. He was at school. He’s in his senior year. When a message arrives from one of my four kids, I always take notice, in case it’s something urgent.
He was reacting to today’s news but this kind of conversation — live or by text — is a recurring one. It happens almost every day.
Never, ever will I live in California

They’re all socialists
I will live in a Republican state

He’s now focusing on colleges and one of his main criteria is to not be in California and ideally not in any Democrat state.
This is fascinating. We’re an immigrant family. We did live in Texas for a bit and now Florida is an essential part of our lives, but these have always been tactical stretches related to our exotic pursuits (tennis!). We have spent most of our time in California. We lived in the Bay area and we lived in Southern California (that’s where my son is finishing his high school; I’m writing this in Irvine).
