Longevity. Immortality?!
[I just wrote this story on my Substack — please follow if you like my stories]
This week, both of these topics have been on my mind, and it wasn’t by accident. Or maybe it was by accident.
My Dad is a big fan of the Rolling Stones, who recently released a new album (“Hackney Diamonds”). It sounds trivial to describe someone of his generation (he’s 64) as a fan of the Rolling Stones, but I have to give more color: in the Soviet Union, they tried to hide the Western pop culture behind the “Iron Curtain.” They tried. My Dad had all the records anyway — Pink Floyd, the Rolling Stones, the Queen, Dire Straits, Led Zeppelin. His love of rock and pop music had a major influence on me. Music is a huge part of my life. And by the way, he doesn’t only listen to the music of his youth. He was the one to discover Radiohead when I was already a teenager.
I wouldn’t call myself a fan of the Rolling Stones. They are too old for me. But I loved Keith Richard’s memoir, and after reading it, I started listening to the Rolling Stones a lot more. “Exile on Main Street” became one of my favorite records.
Anyway, I did download “Hackney Diamonds” to my iPhone. My Dad highlighted the song Whole Wide World. I listened to it. Oh. My. God. It’s a perfect running song. I already saw some Instagram running account use it.
