I’ve made $30 per story on Medium after writing for 28 months
I’m not sure this story will allow anyone to draw any conclusions, but I’ll make an extremely rare deviation from one of my most important principles: never to write about my earnings. I despise the authors who write stories about their earnings.
Why am I writing this then? Well, as you can see from the title, I’m not writing about my income from Medium in the month of January or how much I made from some viral story. Eight hundred stories in twenty-eight months is a meaningful journey.

Divide $23,620 by 800 you get $29.59.
On the surface, this looks impressive, but there are several caveats. With Medium, the use of ‘average’ is a useless indicator. The number is vastly distorted by several huge-earning stories, which I will not discuss here. Mathematically, using the median would paint a much truer — and less joyful — picture.
