It’s stupid and un-American how a non-US-born person can’t become US President

Tonight my oldest son and I were discussing Elon Musk — how he’s ever-present and ever-vocal, on a myriad of topics and issues. Musk’s use of Twitter and the recent increase of his stake in Twitter is a further testament to his “omnipresence”.

I suggested Musk has the potential to become President; for sure more potential than the guys from Big Tech. I wasn’t commending Musk, rather suggesting that his overall reach is so strong that he could give it a go.

My son then said it can’t happen — because Musk wasn’t born in the US. Of course, for the same reason, my son can’t become President, not that it’s on his mind; he wasn’t born in the US.

I thought, not for the first time, that it’s a stupid rule.

The American dream is all about working hard and being able to achieve great things no matter where you come from, right? It’s a nation of immigrants who made great contributions to the success of the nation.

Yet, the highest prize is out of reach if you don’t check the box of having come out of the US-located womb. Sorry to put it in this ugly and awkward way, but this seems wrong on so many levels. It’s against the spirit of the American dream. And it’s just silly. It’s bad for the country — because it might be…
