It’s raining in Florida and we’re watching Home Alone
A tropical storm-turned-hurricane is coming to Florida tonight. Nicole. It will be most felt when it makes landfall in a few hours.
Expectedly, it’s been raining heavily today.
School and kids’ activities were canceled.
It felt a bit like a holiday today: everyone at home, feeling and being very lazy, our daily routines disrupted.
Not my running routine though! It didn’t, it doesn’t, and it can’t get disrupted! I went on a ten-mile run in the morning. It was a slow run but my legs felt very heavy. I was running on an empty stomach and it rained during most of my run. It was windy too. It was still a lovely run. I didn’t mind the rain. It was not “cold November rain” like in the Guns ‘N Roses song. It was still pretty warm. It doesn’t get cold in Florida.
For lunch, we all went out. Like I said — it felt like a holiday, a day off. We ate at a sushi place in Boca Raton, a buffet sushi place, to be precise. The “buffet” part is important. We filled our stomachs like we were animals. I am usually very disciplined about my food consumption. I don’t overeat (as it’s bad for my running!). But today I let myself loose. I must have consumed two-three thousand calories, having made multiple trips to the buffet. I have no regrets. It was my plan to have a rare one-off fuel-loading feast so I feel stronger during my runs in the coming days. The kids were super happy too.
In the afternoon my wife and I took a nap.
The kids played video games for hours.
Then I helped my daughter with her school homework.
Then switched on cable TV. I watched the news about the approaching hurricane and, then flicking through channels, came across Home Alone.
I watched this movie countless times but not in the last couple of years. It feels awesome to be watching it now in the background. We’re all laughing out loud watching the bad guys being destroyed by an eight-year-old. What a timeless movie.
And our lovely dog Astra is begging me to throw a tennis ball.
A rainy, lazy day… But these days can be special and memorable.
