In writing I’m finding Grace. Like in running.
Today I received some help — the details don’t matter — from someone whose kid has been in my running boot camp. During the summer this running camp has been on pause but I plan to resume soon. My wife started it a couple of years ago (she coaches tennis) and now I’m continuing ‘ cause running is my life’s biggest passion. I’m a runner and I want to inspire others — kids and adults.
When I mention Grace, I mean it. During my runs, after my runs, during my races, after my races, I feel at peace. It’s a very profound and spiritual feeling. There is a big smile in my soul, there is joy, there is gratitude, and there is all-consuming acceptance of everything that I have in my life, the good and the bad. I’m calm. My heart beats fast, my heart beats slows. It beats. It’s my companion. Keep in mind that I run every day. So no matter the stress, every day there is a moment when I feel profoundly calm.
Writing is a different activity but it’s been an incredible ride. I started writing on Medium in October of last year after…well, running. I ran my first sub-three-hour marathon and decided to write about it. About the power of habit. And then I started writing every day and never looked back.
