And the interest in the topic is growing day by day.

Several weeks ago, I met Bryan Johnson, the millionaire who is attempting to reverse aging. I joined him for a trail run. While I’ve come to respect his work and mission, this story is not about showering Bryan with compliments. I prefer to avoid extreme praise or scathing criticism of successful people. What I want to emphasize is that the overall focus on longevity is close to my heart, and meeting Bryan definitely added a spark.

Why am I interested in longevity?

There isn’t a simple answer. It’s not that I fear aging; absolutely not. I don’t have some absolute target I want to reach longevity-wise — that would be a little naive. Instead, I have a deep appreciation for my body. Not in some narcissistic way, but in how it’s capable of accommodating so much life and so many intense experiences, both physical and mental. I see it as a delicate masterpiece.

I also admire people who stay active in their older years. Today, I went for a run with the guy who’s 59. He’s one of the best in the world in his age group. He will try to set an American masters record when he runs a marathon later this year. He’ll be sixty, then. I love running, so I’m biased in how I liked him, but he did look great, and he’s not stopping any time soon.

Earlier today, I also thought about aging because of a very different situation. My father — he’s in Moscow — sent me this picture of his mother, my grandmother. She’s almost 90.
