I’m not happy with Medium either. Adding my voice to the growing number of frustrated writers.

I recently came across several stories where writers express their concern about Medium. They are good stories — not the primitive ones about a bad month in earnings, though it’s ok to worry about that too.

Making money on Medium was never my goal, not because I’m privileged but because I always focused on the process, my love of writing, and consistency. Stay consistent with any activity, and good things will come. Maybe as a direct reward, maybe in a way that’s impossible to predict.

So I don’t want to mention my earnings on Medium. I had several spectacular months, but most are mediocre. Anyone who writes on Medium knows that you can’t rely on Medium to be a predictable source of income. I’m also happy that after a year and a half of writing, I have several thousand followers on the platform.

But I have other complaints.

I can’t put my finger on it, but something is off with Medium. Views, reads, curated stories — everything is down. I used to see a lot of “chosen for further distribution.” Now — never. My stories haven’t been curated for many months. I didn’t even understand what exactly curation meant and how I benefited from it, but it was a nice feeling to know that Medium’s editorial folks were reading my material and sometimes giving it thumbs up by selecting it for further distribution.
