I’m happier this week and in life because Steph Curry, because the Warriors are everything great there is about America
We came to America in 2013 and spent the first five years in the Bay area. You could not live in the Bay area and not fall in love with the Warriors, no matter where you had emigrated from. Call us bandwagon fans, so what? We watched the birth and evolution of one of the most exciting sports teams ever. We loved Steph, we loved Klay, we knew every Warriors player. Our neighbors in Cupertino had a seasonal pass and kindly took us out, a couple of times, to watch the Warriors at Oracle Arena.
At some point, my two sons and I would play in our local park almost every night.
We watched the Warriors suffer too. Their loss to the Cavaliers was heart-breaking, especially considering their magic 73-win season. For weeks that summer I’d wake up feeling joyless thinking how the Warriors blew their historical season.
Then there was Kevin Durant; then the party ended, the lights went off and it seemed like they’d never come back on.
But it returned — the Warriors are champions again, in 2022.
Two days after game 6 I can’t stop reading the stories praising the Warriors and, of course, Steph Curry.
Steph Curry is special. I’m not a basketball expert to comment on his sporting legacy. I don’t have an opinion on where Steph ranks in the all-time best basketball players' debate. But you don’t have to…
