I’m done pursuing “tech” endeavors. No more damn apps!
This is not a rant against the tech industry. Well, I could rant. I think metaverse is as interesting as the trace that my poo sometimes leaves in the toilet.
Sorry, got carried away providing my opinion on metaverse.
So most things tech — just not my thing.
Six years ago I co-founded a start-up — a scheduling and messaging app for afterschool activities. It was a genuine effort. We built a good product, but it never became a viable business. The idea stemmed from my experience of running a brick-and-mortar afterschool business. I thought there was a problem to be solved. There was, even in hindsight. But we never found the elusive “product-market-fit”. Or maybe we executed very poorly. We burned through lots of money.
Even now I keep coming across many start-up ideas. I am often asked to help — with business development, and fundraising. Sometimes I attempt. I find some ideas bull shit but some are interesting.
All of my recent work has been in the sustainability space. Renewable energy, and biomaterials. The notion of “sustainability” resonates strongly with my interests but it’s all been opportunistic — I wasn’t specifically looking to help companies addressing energy transition. But once it happened, I started to find my calling.
I guess “tech” is a very broad term. “Cleantech” in which I’d love to work is very much “tech”!
