I’m a global citizen, an immigrant from it doesn’t matter where

Or maybe a citizen of the world. I can’t tell what sounds better “a global citizen” or “citizen of the world”, but you get my point. Both expressions sound a bit cliche, so what?

My profile on Medium says: a Russian immigrant in America.

Well, that’s pretty specific and sounds very different from “global citizen”. I guess, that’s how I often identify myself.

But I also identify myself as a global citizen (or a citizen of the world!).

I’m an avid lover of rock and pop music. I love many cheesy songs. But there is one cheesy song I hate: born in the USA by Bruce Springsteen. I love and appreciate America, but this song is so cheap. What if you were not born in the USA? You can’t feel as proud, joyful, and bombastic? I like Miley Cyrus’s “Party in the USA” much better!

I am Russian, I spent many years in England and I’ve spent many years in America. For now, America is home and it will probably stay home for a long time. But I can easily imagine moving to a European or Asian country and feeling absolutely comfortable there. It will become home — maybe for a year, maybe for a decade. There will be some adjustments no doubt, pluses and minuses of living in a new environment but I don’t doubt that I will be able to settle down and find comfort and joy in my new home.

I have four kids and I’m sure that in the future my large family will be spread out across different places, cities…
