I wouldn’t change America for any other country.
I recently ranted about Florida but wouldn’t live anywhere else but America. I spent eight years in England, so I want to dismiss the argument Oh, well, you are from Russia so, yes, compared to that it’s less of a shithole. I hated England. It never-ever felt like home though it could become my home. My relationship with England deserves a separate story, but the main reason why I never enjoyed England is that the concepts of “privilege”, “elitism” and social disparity defined the ambiance of the country, at least in my eyes.
There are a lot of caveats to this story. For example, if and when I retire, I could enjoy a place very different from America. I don’t have any specific ideas now. It’s unpredictable how I will feel decades from now. Or for example, when my kids are all grown up, my wife and I may seek new experiences. We probably will. Or maybe one of our four kids moves to a different place, and we will choose to follow.
But I’m writing this story from my current perspective: approaching my mid-forties, raising four kids, and continuing to search for my path in life. Yes, I am still searching. I’ve made many turns in my career and am yet to settle on something I both truly love, and that helps me create the most value.
I don’t want to get political in this story and throw around high-flying concepts like my love of freedom. Well, I’ve just mentioned it there anyway — I appreciate freedom in its every form and shape, and in my eyes, America remains the leader of the free…
