I will never fall out of love with these…

My family doesn’t count! You’re supposed to love your family, notwithstanding the occasional crises and even feuds.

Why am I writing this? Well, I wonder sometimes — can you love something forever? For example, in the past, I loved Moscow, my home city. Now I don’t care. No nostalgia. This is not a political statement. It’s just that since I left Russia a decade ago I shut the door on the country — for various reasons. That love is no longer.

I was madly in love with my first job. I worked in investment banking for Morgan Stanley. It was that combination — the actual profession and Morgan Stanley. I could see myself working for Morgan Stanley for decades. Well, I left that job many years ago. No bad feelings — I’m grateful for that stretch in my life and career but that love doesn’t exist anymore either.

I want to mention one other love that I lost. I used to adore Dostoevsky’s Brothers Karamazov.

Now I’m canceling him.
