I think this movie will transcend generations, unlike most others
Sorry, Star Wars fans, it’s not Star Wars. It’s an iconic movie, no doubt, but I fear that a few decades from now it will look archaic. It will still be a cinematographic classic, but not the kind that the future generations of kids will watch. I think the entertainment technology of the future will be so advanced that the movie’s special effects will not feel “special”.
It won’t be the Godfather. The Godfather usually occupies the #1 spot in most “greatest movies of all time” lists. I myself agree with it. It is the greatest movie of all time. But there are nuances. First, you can’t call it a family movie. In this story, I’m mainly talking about family movies. Second, it too will eventually grow archaic — the overall feel of it, the era that it shows. It will not be easy for our grandchildren and great-grandchildren to appreciate it.
Jurassic Park? It feels like it can be timeless, but again the future variations of this movie will likely be a huge improvement over the original series. Think about how you perceive the original 1930s King Kong movie. It’s a classic, but too old.
Titanic!
This is what I have in mind. Titanic is a hugely successful movie but you don’t usually put it in the “greatest” debate. But over the years, I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s an underrated movie, even with its already blockbuster status.
