I think I understand (and respect) the psychology of true faith

I often find myself curious about how some people spend their entire lives with an unwavering belief in God. Recently, I came across a few Instagram influencers with huge audiences whose every post is about Jesus and how God will “1000% provide for you when you’re walking in a place that he told you to go”. This is just a random quote I’m seeing at this moment as I try to give an example of an Instagram influencer. These are not freaky preachers. These are men and women you can often relate to. They are attractive in their looks and capable of drawing attention with their compassionate comments, whether you’re religious or not.

I’m not musing about faith in general. I’m specifically discussing the people for whom faith is absolutely integral to their identity. They perceive God in everything that’s happening, whether joy or suffering. Their days begin and end with prayer. They believe in meeting God after death. They believe, period. Year after year, decade after decade. Every moment of their existence is filled with faith.

The beliefs of these individuals are alien to me. Over the years, I’ve grown agnostic, at best. More often than not, I openly deny all things unearthly. There is no God. There is no soul. There is…
