I think I follow you on strava. I could easily run a sub 3 hour marathon every weekend of the week (after improving a lot in the last couple of years). However that’s not yet point. The point is, among other things, to avoid injuries. Now that I’ve run two sub 3 (first 2.57, then 2.49), I don’t see much point in running if I can’t set my PB. Now I am training for a sub 2.40. Hence it does make sense to have a cycle where you run only a couple of times a year. Of course I won’t necessarily set a PB every time but still I only race to improve. Also the injury point si perhaps the most important. You don’t get injured until you do. Running a marathon a very demanding so why keep running a fast 26 miles so many times? So I guess I disagree with your story. But of course great results anyway!
