I think, after all, I’ll have a niche. Or maybe not. I don’t know.
I don’t usually write about writing, to avoid adding another (surely very important) opinion to the world of very important opinions of many very talented and seasoned writers. But I thought I’d share my sentiment. That’s what I do in general when I write — I share my experiences and sentiment. I barely ever recommend or give advice (who the f** am I to give advice?)
I started writing on Medium a few months ago with an explicit strategy of being anti-niche because I didn’t care about my audience. I still totally don’t care. Build it, they will come is my moto. I write about what’s close to my heart. If someone enjoys my writing — awesome, but I’m never going to try taking advantage of some pattern of what’s popular with my readers. One day I may write about God or running, the other about my lost cat Memphis. I did lose her a few weeks ago. Just before Christmas, she and I drove damn 2,700 miles from California to Florida. I mean I drove, she didn’t drive. We had a good trip. The next day she slipped out of the house and has been missing since. She’s pretty experienced at being outside and we’d moved states and houses before. This time though it seems she’s wandered off for good. My wife and daughter have been searching restlessly but to no avail. I’m more of a dog person but I feel bad for her. Hope she’ll be back.
