I started writing a year ago
On Medium that is. But I didn’t want to mention Medium in the title of this story. I love Medium but despise most of the stories about writing on Medium, especially the ones that talk about earnings or niches. I did though allow myself one very revealing story about my earnings. Here (please don’t be jealous, I didn’t mean to brag):
I started writing after running my first sub-three-marathon marathon. My first story was about my sub-three-hour marathon… In running I discovered the incredible power of habit and I felt like adding another habit to my life. Something that could last a lifetime. Something that would feel special, though not in an arrogant way. So I started writing.
It worked out great. I recall my first couple of months of writing with great pleasure. They were special because no one was reading me or very few people did and I absolutely didn’t care. I kept writing every day. To no one. To emptiness. Maybe to total strangers without having any clue how exactly those strangers were discovering my stories, among tens of thousands of other stories on Medium.
In this story, I wanted to share the lessons learned.
