I let my 10-year-old kids watch Squid Game

They are not even 10 yet. My twins, a boy and girl, will be ten in a couple of months.

I wouldn’t even write this note if I didn’t see on social media some publication about parents arguing over whether to let their kids watch the now-much-famous show. I quickly scanned through the comments and could tell that many were discussing their older kids — middle and high school. The comments ranged from “no way”, “you’re in control as a parent” to “they’ve watched it already without you knowing”.

As you can tell I’m more in the second camp.

That’s how my wife and I have always been — allowing our kids to watch (with us) pretty much everything, except for the stuff with sex or sexual violence.

IT? Django Unchained? Jame Bond? Jaws? Shining? Once upon a time in Hollywood? You name it.

We are not even avid movie watchers and certainly not TV shows fans. Over the years we attempted to watch a few shows but it almost never worked out. We just don’t have the time or energy to watch something evening after evening (let alone binge watch) no matter how good the show is. We do watch movies — rent something on Apple TV, once or twice a week; we go to the cinema once or twice a month. With Squid Game, we just happened to join the bandwagon. It’s impossible not to know about the show so one night we started watching and finished the first season in 3–4 nights. Our younger kids were around so they joined.
