I hated England
Not to be confused with not liking Brits! I have many British friends, ex-colleagues, and current partners who I love!
I tell my kids not to use the word “hate”. It’s too strong and childish.
But I didn’t know how else to express the strength of my emotions when it comes to describing my years in England.

Maybe I don’t like England because my boarding school experience was painful. I wrote about it here. Painful is an overstatement. In hindsight, it was all good. But there was pain, some pain… Four long years.
Maybe I don’t like England because I was homesick during my Cambridge years when my girlfriend and I had to endure the pain of a long-distance relationship. We’re together now for more than two decades. So endure we did — successfully, and I shouldn’t have scars.
