Here’s an idea: a Realverse

I ranted about Metaverse a few weeks ago. I was then browsing the internet and scrolling through my social media accounts and was surprised to come across the metaverse thing several times within a few minutes.

Well. Fuck.

Just a few weeks later, it’s not “several times within a few minutes”. My Linkedin and Facebook have been completely overpowered by this weed. It’s everywhere. I can’t escape it.

Land plots in metaverse being sold for millions.

Warner Music building its metaverse.

Nike too — hiring apparently for its metaverse ambitions.

A relative from another side of the planet reached out to me. He’s building a metaverse dedicated to self-improvement and cleaning up our planet. I don’t want to be too rude or cynical. In fact, I’m genuinely trying to understand what he’s trying to do and if I can help him. Maybe it’s an opportunity for me to become more open-minded. So in his metaverse, one can plant a couple of trees and earn some kind of karma points that become tokens. I ask him, “Is there any connection to the real world, to improving our planet. He said, “ Yes we can have someone in the real world plant those couple of trees in parallel.”

For a second I got excited. Is he onto something? I’m still, writing this, trying to understand if he’s onto something.

I have a small question though. Why blockchain, metaverse, karma points, and cryptocurrency? Why not just plant a couple…
