Grandpa’s Strawberry Cake and The Enhanced Olympics
I decided to write this story after reading in the news about the Russian skater’s attempt to defend herself in the doping investigation by referring to her grandfather’s dessert. The old man prepared a strawberry dessert for his beloved granddaughter on the same chopping board he used to cut his medicine, which is a forbidden substance in sports.
I then thought back to a related story from the recent week: the Enhanced Olympics, backed by one of Silicon Valley’s most prominent investors Peter Thiel, aims to build a doping-friendly global sporting event.
Reading the first paragraph, you might’ve smiled at the absurdity of the lie the ice skater attempted. I did when I read the news. The lie is so blatant, that it’s amusing. The movie Bad Grandpa comes to mind:
