Five things I experienced in my life already that were worth living for

I turned forty-three last week. Maybe I have half as much or longer to live; maybe I don’t. But I’ve enjoyed living a very intense life, notwithstanding my occasional failures and frequent stress.

***Being loved and loving. Within the same relationship. For almost twenty-four years now. My wife and I met randomly in the summer of 1999. I was nineteen; she was… fifteen. We had the craziest, wildest summer together. We never parted since the day we met. We had our share of hardships, including the pain of a long-distance relationship. It was hard, and it wasn’t. Because Love is Bigger than Anything in its Way. That’s a song by U2, by the way.

***Meeting God on my runs.

***Experiencing California, especially Southern California’s sunsets. Not all sunsets are created equal. I went for a short run this evening. It was my second run today. The sunset was upon me. And like so many times before, I was in awe. I can’t describe it. Orange? Well, most evenings are orange. Blood orange? I can’t describe it. It’s so warm…
