Expect to be flooded with stories about Andrew Tate

When my teenage son Max comes to me and tells me how some guy had been banned from Facebook and Instagram but is now huge on Tiktok — I know we’re dealing with some kind of a social media phenomenon. A fad most likely.

Max showed a few clips of Andrew Tate.

I’d heard about Tate before my son told me about him. In fact, it was here on Medium that I first found out about him — there was a story a couple of weeks ago where someone explained this person’s background.

Andrew Tate is not even on Tiktok, meaning he doesn’t have an account (apparently) but there are hundreds of video clips with his provocative statements. The reason these clips are growing like a weed is that there is a pyramid scheme in place. The dude has some kind of a “university” where you pay fifty bucks to enroll and get some % if you refer someone.

I don’t know the details. I don’t care. There is nothing disruptive about a pyramid scheme.

I watched a few clips. Tate was banned from Meta because of his misogynistic views.

Misogynistic they are indeed. I don’t feel comfortable contributing to the guy’s fame by recirculating his quotes but since I’m writing a story about him, here’s a couple:

“The reason 18 and 19-year-olds are more attractive than 25-year-olds is that they’ve been through less dick. I’ll say this right here on the fucking Internet. I don’t give a shit.”
