Compare these two very different acts by the Russian people

You’ve probably seen the images of this brave woman who disrupted live Russian state TV broadcast with an anti-war message:

The part of the sign in Russian says Stop the War. Don’t believe the propaganda. They’re lying to you. The woman has been detained and her attorneys don’t know where she is.

On the other hand, The Russian Union of Rectors has issued a statement that defends Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Let me clarify — this voluntary letter is signed by over 150 deans and leaders of Russia’s leading universities, including Moscow State. This is the country’s academic intelligentsia, the folks who influence (presumably) the hearts and brightest minds of Russia’s young generation. Here’s the translated letter:

Dear colleagues!

Events are taking place before our eyes that concern every citizen of Russia. It is Russia’s decision to finally end the eight-year confrontation between Ukraine and the Donbas, to achieve the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine and thereby protect itself from the growing military threats.

We, the rectorial corps of the Russian Federation, have developed and strengthened
