Beer and Running
Running is my passion and a non-negotiable daily habit. I can — I do — sacrifice a lot to maintain and continue to improve my running shape. I recently ran a sub-three-hour marathon.
I won’t ever shut up about it and I have big plans for my running journey, that I hope will continue for decades. I’m a perfectionist with running as I wrote in this note.
My son tells me I’d have to give up drinking alcohol if I’m serious about my running. He’s already mentored me quite a lot (he runs track and cross country and is very disciplined too about his running). A couple of years ago seeing me run — and I was borderline overweight then — he told me that I don’t realize how good I could be if I lost weight. So I did lose weight. I also learned a lot from him about interval training. We continue to talk a lot about running every day and just yesterday we went together for a six-mile tempo run. I didn’t have a very good run but it still felt awesome to run 6 miles at 6.14 min/mile with my son!
I love my beer though! I can’t imagine giving it up. My life would be stripped of some of its most enjoyable moments.
A few notes about my beer consumption.
I prefer IPAs and hazy IPAs that are usually higher in alcoholic content (>5%)…
