Another note on alcohol rules. #3
These are work in progress, by the way. It’s not like I came up with a magic list. The rule #1 I’ve had for a long time — I never drink during the day:
The second rule is much more recent. There was a specific event when I realized I didn’t ever want to drink in a social setting, especially of a corporate nature.
Rule #3 is also new. I came up with it tonight. This is how it happened.
I’ve been drinking a lot less this year. I used to have a drink almost every night. I want to emphasize I was never addicted. When I started doubting myself, I interrupted my habit overnight, and I was just fine — I went without drinking for weeks.
Nowadays, it’s on and off. I can go for days without any drink, but then I’d treat myself to beer or wine. I had a beer after my long run on Sunday, and then yesterday, I got a bottle of red wine during my trip to Costco. I had a couple of glasses last night and finished the bottle this evening.
