One way to deal with self-doubt

Maybe this will be an unusual recommendation but I feel quite strongly about it. This is not going to be a Tony Robbin’s kind of a message. Well, Tony Robins speaks and I write (boy, if you invited me to speak in public as he does, I’d shit myself from self-doubt, quite literally!). I haven’t been to his sessions. But you know what I mean — an inspirational message that underscores your strengths, powers, inner potential, and so on.

I say this: don’t battle self-doubt. Not too much. Live with it. Acknowledge self-doubt. Live with it as you live with your imperfect body. Maybe you’re bold, maybe short, maybe overweight. Maybe you have a perfect body, but you’re struggling to find your life partner and you’re lonely as hell! So even with your perfect body, you still have to work hard to find harmony and happiness in life.

Why do I recommend not battling self-doubt?

A few reasons

  • Our lives are full of ambiguity. We face numerous decisions of different magnitude. Often there is no “right” or “wrong” decision. Often it’s quite possible to make a mistake. Even post factum, you’re not always going to have an inspirational story about how you overcame self-doubt and achieved something spectacular. In fact, very rarely you will have such a story. Many stories will be “With that decision, I fucked up; I would’ve been better of listening to my doubts”. And that’s fine.
