An interesting topic and I don't think I agree, though I'm not sure I fully understood the conclusion. I have four kids who are athletic/athletes (high level and they enjoy their sports). It might appear like we are somehow special in being so athletic. But with all four of them there were episodes early in their journeys of crying on the pitch and being that akward unatheletic kid that you are referring to. I don't think there is such a thing as being non-athletic. In my experince with my kids and some families who I know closely, with some consistency, patience and trial and error (meaning trying several different sports) practically everyone can not only overcome "non athleticism" but come to really enjoy playing sports. Then there is me myself. I was a very unatheltic kid growing up. Always belonging to the slow and akward bunch. Now I win marathons in my age group. I'm concious of sounding narcisstic but I've seen many kids (and adults for that matter) flourish and transform dramatically because of sports. It's just a matter of time.
