Continuing from Day 1

We were still in Arizona when I woke up and went for a jog in what I call “the middle of nowhere,” around the motel where we stayed, though Holbrook probably doesn’t deserve to be called that.

Then we continued on I-40 and drove through New Mexico.

New Mexico wasn’t exciting, frankly.

I had a discount card with Circle K and ended up driving further into the city than I should have — the area looked pretty rough, or at least the neighborhood we visited did. There were a lot of homeless people.

Did I have any associations while driving through New Mexico?

Well, a couple. First — Breaking Bad; you know, meth and all. I never watched the series in its entirety, but my oldest son is a fan, so I kind of know about it.

From Vanity Fair

Second, I thought of the movie Oppenheimer I watched earlier this year. Even without seeing the movie, I knew the nuclear tests took place in New Mexico.

Then Texas.
