So, the guy eats once a day, usually late in the evening.

He runs up to 200km a week but eats once a day. His marathon time, at the age of 56, is 2 hours 38 minutes (London). But he eats once a day…

At first, I thought Yuri was exaggerating. Surely he has some kind of a snack during the day! I run, I know a thing or two about running. Even the question of fuel aside, it’s not a nice feeling to be hungry, when you are training.

When I posted my first story (read here) about Yuri Strofilov on one of Facebook’s groups (sub-3-hour marathon), some commentators also — expectedly — expressed their surprise at Yuri’s eating philosophy.

We communicate in Russian. Here’s the translated reply Yuri sent.

“It’s 5pm now. We haven’t eaten once yet. Last night at 9pm we walked into a restaurant. Before that — only a bottle of beer after my training.”

He continued a little later.

“Now we’re in Athens. Sitting on a bench, browsing Tripadvisor, deciding what restaurant to go to. When you eat once a day, you can spend time picking what you want and you can afford to make it not to…
