  • Mandatory or near-mandatory student and cultural exchanges for everyone. The way we go to school, we should all spend a year abroad, in a different culture.
  • Similarly, in adult age, work abroad for a year or many years.
  • Practice another religion, at least for a period of time. I’m not religious. Perhaps “practice” is not the right word but try observing or joining some of the rituals that your religious friends follow. I have this experience. It’s great. When I came to the US (Oklahoma!) as a teenager, I joined my host family for their Sunday church visits. At my boarding school in England, I shared a room with a Muslim friend.
  • Run! I am a runner. As a runner, I can’t imagine not being peaceful.
  • Host a foreign exchange student.
  • Host a foreign guest.
  • In politics, let’s have an opinion on individual topics and not let our party affiliation dominate our views and egos.
  • Let’s not engage in doomsday-styled musings. It doesn’t help anyone unless the task is to find someone to blame. There is a lot of good in the world.
  • Watch sports. You will see athletes of all skin colors, from vastly different backgrounds, compete fiercely, yet inspire all of us, in our different countries, and unite us in our appreciation of what humans are capable of achieving. Nadal, Kipchoge, Steph Curry, Michal Phelps.
  • I am thinking of #10…
